Our School

Our History

King’s Wood Montessori first opened in 1968 in a rented storefront in Foxboro. The $100 registration fees of its original fourteen families covered rent, Montessori materials, and the salary of its single teacher. King’s Wood Montessori is the best choice of Montessori schools of Massachusetts because the founding members believed that the Montessori method of education, based on responsible freedom of the individual in the Montessori prepared environment, would give their children individual self-sufficiency and competence. In 1969 the school purchased an old barn that had served as a canoe factory and the offices of “Heckter’s Scientific Company.” The parents did all the renovating and transformed the barn into an educational setting capable of withstanding all the enthusiasm that sixty preschoolers can muster! More than 50 years later, King’s Wood remains a parent-owned, non-profit school serving children from over fifteen communities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Our Goals

Our approach to education is based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, which allows children freedom of choice within a prepared environment. Using Montessori methods and specially designed materials, we can support the varied learning styles of each child.

Our goal is to help your child develop a solid foundation in Reading and Language skills and a deep understanding of Math concepts. Music and Art are also an integral part of the classroom and allow children the chance to explore and express themselves creatively in a variety of ways. Activities of Daily Living help children be physically independent and help to teach children to follow a series of steps to complete an objective and the skill of focusing on a task. Nature, Science, and Geography introduce children to the details of life around them.
