Top 10 reasons that make King’s Wood Montessori special

Montessori Trained and Certified Teachers.

Teachers are formally trained to observe and prepare the classroom to meet each child’s developmental and academic needs.

Multi-Age Classroom. (2.9 – 6 years old)

This concept mirrors the real world as students learn and socialize with friends of different ages and interests in the same space. Younger children learn from their older peers, while older children learn leadership skills and reinforce their learning by working with their younger friends.

Freedom of Choice. Students in the classroom can

  • Choose work that interests and challenges them.
  • Choose their workspaces, table, or mat.
  • Whom they want to work with, a peer or an older friend.
  • Move safely and freely throughout the carefully prepared classroom.

Uninterrupted Work Cycle

Students spend their time working at their own pace. The child determines the cycles of activities, and the uninterrupted work cycle ensures quality time spent working with materials. During this time, the teacher observes and plans her following individual or group lessons to support each child’s abilities and interests.

Montessori is a cumulative curriculum.

Each Montessori material teaches a single skill or concept, and every subsequent lesson builds on that skill. This helps students master each concept before moving on to the next.

Most Montessori materials are self-correcting activities, and they promote skills like problem-solving without adult intervention, concentration, and also build confidence.

Materials flow in concept from concrete to abstract. For example, a student will begin using manipulatives for math and finish the concept by doing mental math.

Conferences

Parents have formal conferences and are given skill-based student reports twice a year.

Teachers are available for questions and conversations through meetings, emails, or phone calls.

With the freedom of choice, students exercise intrinsic motivation, self-control, and self-motivation without rewards.

Students stay with the same teacher throughout their time at King’s Wood and enjoy the comfort of closely connecting with their teachers. Over the three years, the students will have experienced the transition from a novice to a leader
